Horrifying flesh eating zombie drug enters the United States for the first time

(NaturalNews) Known as the world's most horrifying drug, Krokodil has arrived in America, with official reports coming from the Banner Poison Control Center in Arizona. Rumors and hospital reports are spreading of Krokodil presence in other major U.S. cities as well.

Popular in Russia for the past decade, Krokodil is a cheap heroine substitute that causes the user's skin to rot away. Once injected, the drug rots the skin by rupturing blood vessels, causing skin tissue to become scaly and green. Soon, the skin hardens, rots and dies, sometimes falling right off the bone.

Check out this slideshow of a Krokodil user, if you dare.
Krokodil is thought to be popular because it is cheap - 20 times cheaper than heroine or morphine - and can be made at home using codeine, gasoline, paint thinner and alcohol.

The life expectancy of a Krokodil user is just 2-3 years, according to a TIME Magazine investigation of the drug's widespread use in Russia.

"As far as I know, these are the first cases in the United States that are reported," Dr. Frank LoVechhio, co-medical director at Banner Good Samaritan Poison and Drug Information Center in Arizona, told CBS News. "So we're extremely frightened."

"These people are the ultimate in self-destructive drug addiction," Dr. Ellen Marmur, chief of dermatological and cosmetic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City reported to Fox News, "Once you are an addict at this level, any rational thinking doesn't apply."

DEA looks the other way
The U.S. drug enforcement agency, in spite of verified reports of multiple users across several cities, seems to be denying that Krokodil exists.

"We, the DEA, are not seeing cases of it," DEA spokeswoman Dawn Dearden told FoxNews.com. "Nothing's been turned into any of our labs. As far as the DEA is concerned, we have not seen any cases."

This, of course, defies all logic, common sense and the blatant, publicly demonstrated proof that Krokodil is being used by U.S. citizens on American soil.

Denial may be the death of us all. In the face of such brazen stupidity, how are we not to assume the worst about those in leadership positions in America today? Are we supposed to just go along with a "Yuk, yuk, the DEA said there isn't a problem, so I guess there isn't!"

Backlash against Dearden's statement may be prompting higher DEA officials to engage in damage control public relations, as reported by the Huffington Post.

By the way, Krokodil is NOT popular because it is cheap
It's popular because people don't mind destroying themselves. No self-respecting person would inject Krokodil into his veins even if it were free, or for all the money in the world. It takes someone with an appetite for self-annihilation.

When you think about it, self-harm is pretty popular. In fact, it's downright fun for millions of people who stuff various poisons into their bodies, knowingly or through willful ignorance, on a daily basis through toxic food or legal and illegal drugs.

Anyone who doubts the ubiquity or even the pleasure we take in self-sabotage needs to reconsider. Self-sabotage is public enemy number one.
