Genetic mutated plants kill people

18 million Americans suffer from diseases associated with gluten intolerance. According to recent studies in the USA, the problem concerns genetically modified soybean and corn that people eat. Doctors believe that the world is on the threshold of a new large-scale epidemic.
Gluten-free diet is becoming more and more popular. And this is not a fashion craze. For the majority of people it is a vital necessity. Human body tends to refuse to assimilate gluten - a protein contained in grains. When we eat food containing gluten, gluten intolerance leads to violation of digestion processes. As a result - a wide range of diseases from autism to cancer.
Taking into account the fact that cases of gluten sensitivity have dramatically increased over the past 20 years, the connection between the burst of diseases and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is undoubted, doctor of biological sciences, international expert on environmental and food safety Irina Yermakova indicates.
"We observe a burst of cancer in those areas, where GMOs are widespread. Cases of obesity and diabetes have also increased several times after genetically modified products were brought to these regions. In addition, sterility is detected there. It is the most terrible thing, since it is not only human beings' or mammals' sterility, but infertility of almost all living organisms. This can lead to destruction of our biosphere, because insects and useful bacteria also cease to reproduce, and plants disappear. In general, GMOs are a time bomb."
Meanwhile, there is no common assessment of the danger of GMOs in the world. For example, such products are widely used in the US. There's even no law on mandatory labeling of products containing GMOs. China allows to grow genetically modified cotton and papaya, but it also imports genetically modified corn and rice. As for Europe, Austria, Germany, France, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, Luxembourg and Hungary completely refused from producing GMOs. Meanwhile, Ukraine will soon join the countries, where genetically modified soybeans are growing; this decision has been already adopted.
The problem lies in the fact that until now, a global research on GMOs' impact on the environment and, in particular, on humans has not been conducted yet. Scientists working for multinational companies-producers of genetically modified products, and independent scientists, who do not support the idea of genetic engineering, cannot agree. They do not trust each other's experiments. And since from the commercial point of view, it is more profitable to grow and use genetically modified grain instead of the natural one, it has a strong lobby in different countries.
The Russian National Association of Genetic Safety has decided that it was time to put an end to that dispute: to ban GMOs, if they are harmful, or appease the people, if there is no danger, Director of the Association Elena Sharoykina told the Voice of Russia.
"We must carry out an experiment based on the rules, which opponents and proponents of GMOs as well as those, who are indifferent to this technology, will agree upon. This year, we carried out a great work with participation of international and Russian scientists. In the summer, we were visited by specialists from the USA, France, and Great Britain. A working group was established. Today, the protocols are ready. I think this experiment will become a global sensation, because until now, during 20 years of commercial use of GMOs, nobody in the world has united scientists of different countries and different scientific disciplines in order to fully, with absolute certainty investigate GMOs' impact on organisms."
In 2017, Russia may enter the list of producers of genetically modified soy. This was discussed on Friday (December 6) at the Agro Holdings of Russia conference in Moscow. But if the data of the experiment are negative (and experts claim that a year's term is enough for obtaining general results), then not a single mutant grain will be sown in Russia.
