Activist Post During the week of April 12, 2015, Pennsylvania Smart Meter Awareness (PASMA) sent out two Press Releases regarding the increasing adverse health effects from Smart Meter (SM) radiofrequency non-ionizing radiation (RFs). Those Press Releases were rather dramatic, especially since utility companies claim there are no adverse health problems.
Even Pennsylvania House of Representatives Consumer Affairs Committee Chair, Robert W. Godshall sent me a letter in response to my letter. This is what he had this to say about SM health effects:
- Quote :
- I am not going to continue a dialog on the issue as you have your preconceived opinions on the issue and I have mine based on the evidence I have.
Representative Godshall, will you please produce your evidence. Perhaps Godshall gets his ‘evidence’ from the very same place he gets his campaign contributions?
I wonder if Godshall’s evidence includes the WHO/ICD billing codes for health problems relating to RF radiation from various sources. It’s rather embarrassing that state legislators can be that damn dumb and still hold public office for so long.
Maybe readers also have that problem with uninformed officials. Consumers/voters need to educate their representatives in government at local, state and federal levels, to counteract vested interests ‘evidence’.
Below are the Press Releases I received and want to share with readers since the April 14th one talks about
“Symptoms After Exposure to Smart Meter Radiation” and the April 16th PR advises
“How to Bill Medical Insurance Companies for Smart Meter-Related Health Problems,” something every utility customer should know, plus keep in their medical files—just in case.

PASMA HAS CONCERNS ABOUT “SYMPTOMS AFTER EXPOSURE TO SMART METER RADIATION” Retired U.S. Government scientist Ronald M Powell, PhD (Applied Physics/Harvard) recently published a report of two surveys about health issues on individuals who have complained of poor health after having had a Smart Meter (SM) installed on their homes. The first survey included 318 respondents from 28 states (California to New York), while the second survey was done on 92 respondents in Victoria, Australia. A total of 410 adults and children were included in both surveys.
Participants in both surveys experienced six clusters of symptoms that were nearly identical in order of occurrence: (1) sleep disruption; (2) headaches; (3) ringing or buzzing in the ears; (4) fatigue; (5) loss of concentration, memory, or learning ability; and (6) disorientation, dizziness, or loss of balance. The Surveys Report stated, “The many symptoms found reflect the many body systems that are disrupted by such radiation. “
The radiation that causes those symptoms is Radio Frequency (RF) non-ionizing radiation produced by SMs collecting and transmitting information 24/7 from within each house upon which an SM is installed. Statistically, testing shows that the top ten health problems are associated with EMF (electromagnetic frequency) sensitivity and wireless meters (Smart Meters) installed on homes. 49% sleep problems; 43% stress, anxiety and irritability; 40% headaches; 38% ringing in ears; 26% heart problems. In Australia, 17% experienced heart palpitations, while another 10% experienced chest pain or pain in the heart.
Statistically, up to 2 percent of the population is allergic to something, which means it could be chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, pollen, insect bites/stings, and electromagnetic frequencies like WiFi, RFs and EMFs. According to the U.S. CDC, allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic illness in the USA, costing more than $18Billion a year!
Respondents in both surveys state they have made complaints to either their utility companies or Public Utility Commissions. 40% of those with SMs complained to their utility provider. 32% filed complaints with the public utility commission. 94% want to retain or restore their analog meters.
The paper “Electromagnetic Interference of Pacemakers” (Umashankar Lakshmanadoss, MD, etal, Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, Baltimore, MD) concluded with “New technologies have increased concern about interference with pacemaker function. It is important for physicians to remain vigilant about the potential risks of EMI [electromagnetic interference] from external sources with regard to pacemaker function.” SMs are new EMI technologies! Pennsylvanians need SM opt-out legislation.

HOW to BILL MEDICAL INSURANCE COMPANIES for SMART METER-RELATED HEALTH PROBLEMS The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) sets the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), which lists billing codes that physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare practitioners use to bill healthcare insurers on behalf of patients. Periodically, ICD codes are updated or revised, with the next revision scheduled for ICD-11 in 2017. Do these ICD codes include health problems/anomalies caused by exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation from AMI Smart Meters (SMs) that Pennsylvanians are being forced to have installed on their homes by utility companies or have their power turned off ?
Health problem diagnostic codes from exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation from various sources are found in the 2015 ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Code W90.8, Exposure to other ionizing radiation, which is not the billable code. There are 3 ICD codes for billing, namely: W90.8XXA—Initial encounter; W90.8XXD—Subsequent encounter; and W90.8XXS—Sequela.
Since numbers of people living in Smart Metered homes are experiencing health problems after SMs were installed,
PASMA encourages all Pennsylvanians to save the above billing information to present to their physicians when making a health claim to medical insurers for healthcare services due to Smart Meter radiofrequency non-ionizing radiation under ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Codes.
Previously, in the 2012 ICD-9-CM Diagnosis, Code E926.9 was designated for Exposure to unspecified radiation.
According to a 2014
Journal of Interdisciplinary Histopathology paper, “…there’s an urgent need to reconsider exposure to RF non-ionizing radiation and the risk of development of adverse health effects.” The American Cancer Society says, “Concerns have been raised about the safety of smart meters, mainly because they give off the same kinds of radiofrequency (RF) waves as cell phones and Wi-Fi devices.” Both Wi-Fi and cell phone use are now being avoided by health-conscious consumers. Likewise, Smart Meters need to be avoided. Pennsylvanians must have legal opt-outs for Act 129 of 2008.
PASMA asks the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the State Board of Medicine to inform all Pennsylvania licensed physicians immediately about potential health problems stemming from Smart Meter radiofrequency radiation. Hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of Pennsylvanians are being adversely affected by RFs after unsafe AMI SMs were installed on their homes to replace their safe, RF-free analog meters.
